The origin roots of Burke "De Búrca" derive from French / Anglo-Norman roots meaning "fortified hill."

I’ve learned so much in designing and drawing this piece. The Burke name derives from several pronunciations “De Burc,” “Burgh,” “Burg,” “Clan De Burca,” and “Bourke.” Let’s start with the top and work down.
  • The Chained Cat - represents a vigilant eye, always watching and overseeing the throne, on guard and signifies liberty, vigilance and and courage of heraldry.
  • The Shield - a symbol of war, and bravery.
  • The Cross in the Shield - Evangelical roots of Christian faith, and signifies those who sacrificed their lives during the crusades during the 12th century.
  • The Knight’s Helmut - a symbol of invulnerability during life, and protector of the royal throne.
  • The Lion on the shield - Emblems of deathless courage, no fear to die for the cross and country.
  • Red Color - The Martyrs, signifies military fortitude and magnanimity. It also honors those who died defending faith, freedom and country.
  • Gold - represents generosity and sacrificial devotion.
